Experience an exiting ride on one of the steepest funicular of the world with a 87.8% maximum gradient and 786 m of difference in altidude between the departure and arrival station. Our Rifugio is only 15 minutes away from the arrival station on a paved road.
The funicular mid station is located in Altanca village, on the famous “Strada Alta” hiking trail (www.stradaalta.ch). The funicular stops only upon request (phone is available). From the Airolo train station you can reach the funicular mid station in approx. 2 walking hours following the official yellow sign strada alta.

How to reach the funicular
By Car
Highway Exit Nr. 42 Quinto, follow the “Funicolare Ritom” sign.
By train/bus
From the Airolo train station take the yellow bus and get off at “Piotta Posta” (5 minutes from Airolo). From the bus stop walk to the funicular station (10 minutes away). Train/bus time table website www.sbb.ch.
